Using the best builds for Boothill in Honkai: Star Rail and giving him the strongest party members for a solid team comp is the best way of optimizing the character’s damage output potential. Boothill is a 5-star Physical character who follows the Path of the Hunt. This Galaxy Ranger is a specialist in focusing his damage against a single enemy and swiftly eliminating them. He can also inflict Physical Weakness on enemies, making himself more efficient against his targets. Boothill and Fu Xuan in Honkai: Star Rail starred Version 2.2’s Phase 2 banners, with the Galaxy Ranger making his debut.

The charismatic character first appeared in the main story quests added with Version 2.2, as he worked alongside Dan Heng to uncover some mysteries surrounding Penacony, its inhabitants, and a few visitors. Now, Boothill is available for players to obtain whenever he is featured in limited-time 5-star banners in the gacha system. Once players beat the odds and grab him, they will need to farm and use all the Boothill Ascension materials in Honkai: Star Rail to get him to level 80 – and then, they can start thinking about the best builds for this 5-star Physical DPS unit.

Best Lights Cones For Boothill

Prioritize Weapons With Break Effect & ATK Stats

Honkai: Star Rail - Boothill Character Builds (Light Cones, Relics, Team Comps) (2)

When choosing a Light Cone for Boothill, it is best if you search for Hunt weapons that increase his best offensive stats, Break Effect and Attack. As such, the best Light Cone for Boothill is that one that was tailor-made for him: Sailing Towards A Second Life. This limited 5-star Light Cone increases the user’s Break Effect by 60% and the Break DMG they deal ignores 20% of the target’s FE. Additionally, when the user’s Break Effect reaches 150% or higher, their SPD is boosted by 12%. This fits in perfectly with Boothill in Honkai: Star Rail.

The table below lists the best builds for Boothill, including ideal Light Cones, essential Relics, best stats, and more:

Best Build For Boothill In Honkai: Star Rail

Light Cone

  1. Sailing Towards A Second Life (Best 5-star)
  2. In The Night (5-star substitute)
  3. Cruising In The Stellar Sea (F2P 5-star substitute)
  4. Swordplay (Best 4-star)
  5. Subscribe for More! (4-star substitute)

Relic & Ornament Set

Relics:

  1. Leaked: Iron Cavalry Against Scourge (4 pieces)
  2. Thief of Shooting Meteor (4 pieces)
  3. Thief of Shooting Meteor (2 pieces) & Watchmaker, Master of Dream Machinations (2 pieces)

Ornaments:

  1. Talia: Kingdom of Banditry (2 pieces)

Stat Priority

  1. SPD
  2. Break Effect
  3. ATK

Skill Priority

  1. Talent
  2. Skill
  3. Ultimate & Basic Attack

Sailing Towards A Second Life is the best Light Cone for Boothill because it boosts the Break DMG he can deal, along with his SPD, which will allow him to strike more often. If his signature Light Cone is not available, you can use Seele’s signature weapon, In The Night. This 5-star Light Cone increases the user’s CRIT Rate by 18% but, more importantly, for every 10 points of SPD that exceed 100, the DMG of the user’s Basic ATK and Skill is increased by 6% and the CRIT DMG of their Ultimate is increased by 12%.

This effect stacks up to six times in Honkai: Star Rail.

A F2P alternative is Cruising in the Stellar Sea. This increases the user’s CRIT Rate by 8% and boosts their CRIT Rate against enemies with HP less or equal to 50% by an extra 8%. When they defeat an enemy, their ATK is boosted by 20% for two turns. Other than Boothill’s signature weapon, there is no fantastic 5-star Light Cone substitute, as the ones currently available all lean heavily into CRIT stats, which do not affect Boothill all that much. Surely, he can benefit from an occasional CRIT hit, but it is not his specialty in Honkai: Star Rail.

Alternatively, however, there are great 4-star Light Cones for Boothill that may be more worthwhile using if you do not have Sailing Towards A Second Life. Subscribe for More!, for instance, will increase the DMG of the user’s Basic ATK and Skill by 24%, an effect that increases by an extra 24% when the user’s Energy reaches its limit. Swordplay is also a viable 4-star alternative, as it boosts Boothill’s DMG for every time he hits the same target – which is exactly how he should be playing.

Swordplay is particularly good for Boothill when he is starting a duel with an HP-heavy target, like the Doomsday Beast boss in Honkai: Star Rail.

Contrary To Most Hunt Characters, Avoid Farming For CRIT

The power of Boothill’s attacks lies in his potential to inflict Weakness Break and, with that, deal Break DMG against his foes. Another important detail to know beforehand is that he should be the quickest member of your team comp. As such, you will need to get Relics and Ornaments that provides those types of bonuses. At the moment, the best Relic set for Boothill in Honkai: Star Rail is the four-piece ensemble of Thief of Shooting Meteor items.

Its two-piece effect will boost Boothill’s Break Effect by 16%, while the 4-piece bonus increases it by an extra 16%, while also regenerating Energy when he inflict Weakness Break. Alternatively, you can also match two pieces from Thief of Shooting Meteor with two pieces from Watchmaker, Master of Dream Machinations for the double 16% Break Effect increase each two-piece bonus provides. You can even match two pieces of Thief of Shooting Meteor with Messenger Traversing Hackerspace since this will grant Boothill a 6% SPD bonus.

Honkai Star Rail 2.3 Leaks: Farming Ornaments Is Finally Getting Easier

Farming Ornaments in Honkai: Star Rail is about to get a whole lot easier if a new Version 2.3 proves itself correct once the update is released.

Do not farm these too heavily yet, as there are leaks of an upcoming Relic set in Honkai: Star Rail 2.3 called Iron Cavalry Against Scourge that will allegedly increase Break Effect and help the user ignore the target’s DEF when Break Effect reaches certain thresholds. The information was provided by Firefly Lover in a now-deleted post on Reddit. If true, the leaked Relic set is expected to be a lot better than any of the aforementioned alternatives and will fit Boothill’s offensive needs perfectly.

When it comes to Planar Ornaments, there is currently only one set that adequately serves Boothill. By activating the two-piece bonus, Talia: Kingdom of Banditry will increase Boothill’s Break Effect by 16% and when his SPD reaches 145 or higher, the wearer’s Break Effect is boosted by an extra 20%. When farming these Relics and Ornaments, try to get as much SPD as possible, first through the boots and then through other pieces' sub-stats. You should also aim to increase Break Effect even more, through the Ornament’s rope and more sub-stats.

As opposed to most characters on the Path of the Hunt, you do not want to farm CRIT stats too much, as it is not only harder, but it is simply more beneficial to double down on Boothill’s guaranteed scaling attributes. For the chest piece, you can use a CRIT Rate item to have a decent chance of landing harder attacks on foes, but anything more than that is unnecessary. As it is, the ideal stats for Boothill in Honkai: Star Rail are SPD, Break Effect, and ATK.

Try to get SPD as high as you possibly can, followed by that same mindset for Break Effect.

Best Team Comps For Boothill

Hypercarry Teams Buff The Character’s Performance

When it comes to the team comp around Boothill, you will want characters that not only boost his damage output but also those that simultaneously protect him. In a hypercarry team, you can use Ruan Mei and the Imaginary Trailblazer as supports that prolong the Weakness Break state and boost Break Effect, respectively. Ruan Mei can also increase the team’s All-Type Resistance Penetration, while Imaginary Trailblazer can even deal more Break DMG. In this team comp, you can use a standard Luocha or Aventurine in Honkai: Star Rail to keep allies safe.

The table below lists a few team comp suggestions for Boothill:

Best Team Comps For Boothill In Honkai: Star Rail

Premium Hypercarry Team

  • Boothill (Hunt - Physical)
  • Ruan Mei (Harmony - Ice)
  • Bronya (Harmony - Wind) or Trailblazer (Harmony - Imaginary)
  • Aventurine (Preservation - Imaginary) or Gallagher (Abundance - Fire)

Mono Physical Team Comp

  • Boothill (Hunt - Physical)
  • Silver Wolf (Nihility - Quantum) or Pela (Nihility - Ice)
  • Hanya (Harmony - Physical)
  • Natasha (Abundance - Physical)

Budget-Friendly (F2P) Hypercarry Team Comp

  • Boothill (Hunt - Physical)
  • Pela (Nihility - Ice)
  • Trailblazer (Harmony - Imaginary)
  • Gallagher (Abundance - Fire)

An alternative to Luocha, Aventurine, or any of the well-established damage mitigators is Gallagher. While not the strongest healer in the game, the 4-star Abundance character can increase the Break DMG against opponents and decrease their ATK, further benefiting Boothill-centered team comps. You can also use Boothill in a mono Physical team, though he may not be at his best.

Skill (Trace) Priority For Boothill

Level Up Everything

Honkai: Star Rail - Boothill Character Builds (Light Cones, Relics, Team Comps) (6)

When leveling up Boothill’s abilities, the first one to increase is his Talent. This will increase his Break DMG, one of the main sources of his damage output. Followed by that, you should boost his Skill, which will increase the DMG targets take in his duel-based Standoff state in Honkai: Star Rail. The next move is to level up both his Ultimate and his Basic Attack. All of Boothill’s abilities are important and all of his secondary Traces must be leveled up, as this will significantly improve his performance on the field.

You can get an extra 37.3% Break Effect from Boothill’s Traces.

Building Boothill can be a little bit complicated, mainly due to how nitpicky his own scaling works. Investing in too much CRIT can be a mistake, which is counterintuitive to how most Hunt characters have worked so far, too. Nevertheless, with the proper amount of Break Effect and SPD alongside the ideal teammates, Boothill can become a powerful Physical DPS to use, especially when facing tougher opponents that need more attention in Honkai: Star Rail.
