Well now you may think I'm foolish
For the foolish things I do
You may wonder how come I love you
When you get on my nerves like you do
Well baby you know you bug me
There ain't no secret 'bout that
Well come on over here and hug me
Baby I'll spill the facts
Well honey it ain't your money
'Cause baby I got plenty of that
I love you for your pink Cadillac
Crushed velvet seats
Riding in the back
Cruising down the street
Waving to the girls
Feeling out of sight
Spending all my money
On a Saturday night
Honey I just wonder what you do there in back
Of your pink Cadillac
Pink Cadillac

Well now way back in the Bible
Temptations always come along
There's always somebody tempting
Somebody into doing something they know is wrong
Well they tempt you, man, with silver
And they tempt you, sir, with gold
And they tempt you with the pleasures
That the flesh does surely hold
They say Eve tempted Adam with an apple
But man I ain't going for that
I know it was her pink Cadillac
Crushed velvet seats
Riding in the back
Oozing down the street
Waving to the girls
Feeling out of sight
Spending all my money
On a Saturday night
Honey I just wonder what it feels like in the back
Of your pink Cadillac
Pink Cadillac

Now some folks say it's too big
And uses too much gas
Some folks say it's too old
And that it goes too fast
But my love is bigger than a Honda
Yeah, it's bigger than a Subaru
Hey man there's only one thing
And one car that will do
Anyway we don't have to drive it
Honey we can park it out in the back
And have a party in your pink Cadillac
Crushed velvet seats
Riding in the back
Cruising down the street
Waving to the girls
Feeling out of sight
Spending all my money
On a Saturday night
Honey I just wonder what you do there in back
Of your pink Cadillac
Pink Cadillac
Pink Cadillac
Pink Cadillac
Pink Cadillac
Pink Cadillac
Pink Cadillac
Pink Cadillac
Pink Cadillac

I think the Cadillac in this song is a sexual metaphor. The narrator describes a difficult relationship with one redeeming aspect -- a pink Cadillac. While such cars were popularized through Mary Kay Cosmetics, pink is used widely as a sexual symbol. Not infrequently, people find themselves in bad relationships prolonged by good sex. Note also that this car is introduced with a hug. Thus, references to "seats," "the back," and "oozing" are suggestive, if not disgusting. The second verse continues the innuendo through the motif of forbidden fruit. The references to the size of the Cadillac reference the genital expanse accompanying senectitude. The references to the diminutive size of Hondas and Subarus may be interpreted as a racist joke at the expense of poorly endowed Asian.

Asstronaut, I agree completely with your interpretation. Don't forget the double entendre line: "Come on over here and hug me, baby, i'll spill the facts."

dasquien is right, the lyrics here are correct. You know, EVERY SINGLE SONG to ever be copyrighted has the official lyrics published somewhere. Songbooks, sheet music, etc., are easy to find. Lyric transcription IS NOT something to fight over, just find the official publication!

Asstronaut is right on. this is completely a sexual metaphor song. And maybe im just crazy, but when i listen to it i hear a song about a prostitute that lets you do her in the a$$. Thats just, but give it a shot next time you listen.

Some how, some way, someone needs to shop-chop Springsteen’s “Pink Cadillac” with Prince’s “Red Corvette”...my gal likes to blast these tunes when she takes me to the strip, it always gets my motor runnin as I peal her pink slip, headers wide open she jams my pedal to the metal as her hot blower supercharges my shifter, no need for brakes, just a little lube before rubber burns in all the gears...I just hope my drive shaft holds out!

Fast Car Tracy Chapman "Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time. Gentle Hour Yo La Tengo This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.Great version of a great song, Punchline Ed Sheeran Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance. Midnight Ed Sheeran “Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms.“Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
